Nadai Cave in Tila Holds Untapped Potential Tourism Destination

The Nadai Cave, located in Upper Khopri village of Tila Rural Municipality–9, is emerging as a site of both religious and tourism significance. Despite its natural beauty and historical importance, the cave remains largely undiscovered due to limited promotion and lack of infrastructure.

A Hidden Gem Awaiting Discovery

Nadai Cave is considered a sacred and historically important site, yet it has remained under the radar because of poor road access and inadequate publicity. According to Ward Chairperson Dhan Bahadur Rawat, efforts are now underway to make the site more accessible.

“A new foot trail leading to the cave has been constructed, and this year, tender has been called for the development of a road up to the village,” Rawat said. “The ward office is working with the aim of promoting local tourism and preserving this area’s religious and natural heritage.”

Scenic Beauty and Spiritual Significance

The area surrounding Nadai Cave offers panoramic mountain views, with the cave itself and nearby hilltops serving as key attractions for both domestic and foreign visitors. “The view of the surrounding landscape from the cave ridge is stunning,” Rawat said, adding that increasing tourist activity could bring positive economic benefits to local residents. The cave is approximately 200 meters long and uniquely shaped, resembling a cow’s udder. Water naturally flows through the cave, adding to its mystical allure and geological uniqueness.

Ongoing Infrastructure Development

Last year, the federal government allocated NPR 9 million under a conditional grant for the conservation and development of the site. The funds have been used for the construction of physical infrastructure including a pilgrims’ rest house (dharmashala), pathways, and basic facilities for visitors, according to Chairperson Rawat.

To further boost accessibility, road connectivity to the Upper and Lower Khopri villages, both part of the Nadai Cave area, remains a priority for the local government. “If proper road networks reach the village, tourism will grow significantly,” said local resident Aamkala Thapa.

Plans for Promotion and Sustainable Development

Tila Rural Municipality Chairperson Motilal Rokaya said the local government is committed to developing Nadai Cave as a religious and eco-tourism destination. “We are working systematically to develop this site, promote it, and prepare the necessary infrastructure,” Rokaya stated. In addition to infrastructure, plans are in place to install hoarding boards, information maps, and signage starting this year to guide visitors and raise awareness about the cave’s significance.

Path Toward Becoming a Prominent Tourism Hub

Locals believe that if properly promoted and developed, Nadai Cave could become one of the most important religious and tourism centers in Mugu district. With its combination of natural beauty, religious faith, and historical heritage, the site holds immense potential to attract both spiritual pilgrims and adventure tourists. However, residents stress that sustained conservation, infrastructure expansion, and strategic publicity are essential to transforming Nadai Cave from a hidden treasure into a renowned destination.
