Nagarjun Resort Inaugurated in Tarkeshwor-3 to Boost Tourism and Local Economy

A new chapter in local tourism development has begun in Tarkeshwor Municipality–3 with the inauguration of the well-equipped Nagarjun Resort. Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, formally inaugurated the resort during a special ceremony held today, highlighting the potential of tourism infrastructure in revitalizing both the environment and the economy.

A Step Towards Strengthening Tourism Infrastructure

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Shahi expressed optimism that the new resort would attract both domestic and international tourists to Tarkeshwor, an area already rich in natural and spiritual appeal. “This type of modern tourism infrastructure will not only promote the region as a destination but will also have a positive impact on the local economy,” he said.

Minister Shahi emphasized the importance of utilizing forests, reserves, and protected areas by integrating them with the tourism sector. He further praised the efforts of the private sector in tourism development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to encouraging and supporting such initiatives. “We will continue to stand with the private sector to promote responsible and sustainable tourism,” he added.

Nepal as a Golden Land for Tourism

On the occasion, Bodhisattva Swami Anand Arun, spiritual leader and founder of Osho Tapoban, described Nepal as a “golden land for tourism.” He stated that the country’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and spiritual depth attract tourists from around the globe. “Our land has the power to mesmerize all kinds of travelers, be it for adventure, culture, or spiritual exploration,” said Swami Arun.

He emphasized that with the right mix of infrastructure and promotion, Nepal could become one of the world’s most revered destinations for holistic tourism.

Local Government Expresses Optimism

Tarkeshwor Municipality Mayor Krishna Hari Maharjan, Deputy Mayor Srijana Burlakoti Aryal, and Ward No. 3 Chairperson Parshuram Aryal jointly expressed confidence that the establishment of Nagarjun Resort would contribute significantly to the promotion of local tourism. Mayor Maharjan highlighted the area’s untapped tourism potential and welcomed the resort as a milestone development.

“Tourism has been a priority sector for us, and this resort can play a catalytic role in bringing visibility to Tarkeshwor as a tourist-friendly destination,” said the Mayor. He also underlined the importance of preserving the local environment and culture alongside development.

Deputy Mayor Aryal added that Tarkeshwor could attract visitors not only for leisure but also for wellness, meditation, and eco-tourism, thanks to its tranquil landscape and spiritual heritage.

Resort to Focus on Employment and Community Development

Abhishek Bikram Shah, manager of Nagarjun Resort, shared that the resort’s mission goes beyond business. “We are committed to creating employment opportunities at the local level and contributing to community development,” he said.

He added that the resort would prioritize hiring from the local community and involve them in services ranging from hospitality to cultural programming. The resort plans to offer eco-friendly accommodations, traditional cuisine, and nature-based activities to give guests a holistic experience of Nepali culture and environment.

A New Tourism Hub Near the Capital

Situated within close proximity to Kathmandu, Tarkeshwor Municipality offers a unique blend of pristine nature and accessibility, making it an ideal destination for both short-term and extended tourist visits. The newly inaugurated Nagarjun Resort aims to capitalize on this advantage by serving as a serene retreat with modern amenities.

With increasing demand for destinations that offer peace, nature, and cultural immersion, Tarkeshwor’s potential as a tourism hub is gradually being recognized. The presence of monasteries, temples, trekking routes, and now high-end hospitality options adds depth to its tourism appeal.

The Way Forward

The launch of Nagarjun Resort aligns with the government’s broader vision to decentralize tourism from Kathmandu and Pokhara by developing alternative destinations with rich local character. The Forest and Environment Ministry has been actively advocating for tourism projects that also contribute to environmental preservation and community welfare.

Minister Shahi called on all stakeholders, government bodies, private investors, community leaders, and locals, to work collaboratively to make such ventures successful. “Let this resort be a model of how tourism can coexist with nature and culture, benefiting everyone involved,” he concluded.

As Nepal continues to rebuild its tourism sector post-COVID, initiatives like Nagarjun Resort serve as promising examples of sustainable, inclusive, and impactful development that can lead the nation toward a more prosperous and culturally enriched future.
