Nanapur Area in Banke Gains Popularity Among Tourists

The Nanapur area in Duduwa Rural Municipality-5, Kamdi, is increasingly becoming a favorite destination for tourists. Located near Nepalgunj, the region’s natural environment, Siddhi Vinayak Lions Garden, and Nanapur Homestay are drawing visitors from various parts of Nepal.

According to local leader Meen Bahadur Thapa, internal tourists from areas such as Nepalgunj and Kohalpur frequently visit Nanapur on Saturdays and public holidays. “The lush greenery and picturesque spots near Nepalgunj are attracting everyone,” Thapa noted. “Given the significant tourism potential, there is a need for local government initiatives to enhance the beauty of Nanapur Homestay and the garden.”

The Babukua Community Forest User Group has developed physical infrastructure on approximately two bighas of land, hosting various recreational programs that appeal to internal tourists. Siddhi Vinayak Lions Garden features structures such as a Lions pillar, a selfie zone, a circular pavilion, and an event hall. Since the garden’s establishment in the Babukua Community Forest, the local tourism scene has seen a notable increase in visitor activity, according to Dambar Budhathoki, Chairman of Nanapur Homestay.

Visitors to Nanapur are drawn to the homestays to experience local living and culture up close. “Despite the limited promotion of homestays, the few external tourists we receive enjoy the hospitality, local cuisine, and family-style accommodations. The first year of operation was quiet, but the number of tourists is gradually increasing,” Budhathoki said.

Located approximately eight kilometers from Nepalgunj, the Nanapur area becomes a popular spot for tourists during the summer, especially after the Sita Irrigation Project canal started flowing. The area is gaining attention as a refreshing retreat during the hot months.

Jhank Bahadur Thapa, Ward Chairman of Duduwa Rural Municipality-5, mentioned that due to a lack of budget at the ward level for infrastructure development, efforts are being made to seek support from the municipal and provincial governments for further development of the Nanapur area.

With its growing popularity and the natural charm of its surroundings, Nanapur is poised to become a significant player in Nepal’s domestic tourism sector, offering visitors a blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and local hospitality.
