Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Hit Bahadur Tamang, emphasized the crucial role of the Nepal Academy in the preservation and promotion of all languages, literature, and academic research in the country. Speaking at the 67th-anniversary celebration of the Nepal Academy on Sunday, Minister Tamang acknowledged the institution as the highest authority for researching and exploring Nepal’s diverse languages, literature, cultures, philosophies, and social sciences. He also highlighted its efforts in creation and translation.
Minister Tamang praised the Academy’s significant contributions to honoring literary and research talents and facilitating academic activities both nationally and internationally. He reaffirmed the current government’s commitment to the development, protection, and promotion of the country’s linguistic and philosophical heritage while acknowledging the adverse impact of the global economic recession on these efforts.
“I am making utmost efforts to support the development of language and literature through the Nepal Academy and to arrange the necessary budget for that,” Minister Tamang shared. He mentioned that the Academy aims to conduct research on Nepal’s oral history and to develop children’s literature.
The Minister also informed that the Academy is preparing to publish a comprehensive perspective after researching the geographical, social, cultural, historical, linguistic, and literary aspects of all provinces in Nepal.
As part of the anniversary celebration, a national poetry competition was held, drawing over 600 participants. This event underscores the Academy’s role in fostering literary creativity and engagement among Nepalese writers and poets.
