Three engineers from Nepal Airlines Corporation have been suspended by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) for maintenance lapses on a narrow-body aircraft. According to CAAN spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul, the engineers were suspended after it was discovered that they used unauthorized parts not recommended by the aircraft’s manufacturing company during maintenance.
The suspension will remain in effect until further notice. The issue came to light after complaints were received regarding serious flaws in the aircraft’s maintenance, prompting an inspection by CAAN last Tuesday. The inspection revealed that parts not approved by the manufacturer were used, leading to concerns about the aircraft’s safety.
The aircraft was grounded on Wednesday, and on Thursday, CAAN engineers oversaw repairs before conducting a successful handling flight. The narrow-body aircraft has since resumed regular operations.
