During a recent reception hosted on the occasion of Egypt’s National Day, the Ambassador of Nepal to Egypt, Noha Elgebaly, announced Egypt’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s goal of becoming a developing country by November 2026. The event, held in Kathmandu with Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest, highlighted the growing partnership between the two nations, with a particular focus on tourism and educational exchange.
Ambassador Elgebaly emphasized Egypt’s dedication to aiding Nepal’s smooth transition to developing country status, underlining the shared interests between the two nations in multilateral forums such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), G-77, and the United Nations. She praised the historical friendship and collaboration between Egypt and Nepal, noting that both countries have made significant contributions to global tourism. The Pyramids of Egypt and Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) in Nepal are iconic landmarks that attract tourists from around the world.
In her address, the Ambassador highlighted Egypt’s ongoing support for Nepalese students, revealing that Egypt has offered opportunities for 300 Nepali students to pursue higher education in the country. She expressed her commitment to increasing this scholarship quota and mentioned that a consultative mechanism between the two countries would soon make a decision on this matter.
Ambassador Elgebaly also stressed the need for further development in economic partnership, investment, and trade between Egypt and Nepal. She reflected on the 1962 Revolution as a pivotal moment in Egypt’s development and how the National Day serves as an inspiration for the country’s continuous progress.
The event was attended by heads and officials of diplomatic missions, high-ranking government officials, entrepreneurs, and senior media personnel, all of whom witnessed the strengthening of bilateral relations and the shared commitment to advancing mutual interests, particularly in tourism and education.
