Nepal and the Kyrgyz Republic Strengthen Mountaineering and Tourism Cooperation

A high-level meeting between Nepal and the Kyrgyz Republic’s tourism and mountaineering leadership was held in Kathmandu, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in the sector. In a significant step toward enhancing international collaboration in mountaineering and tourism, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) President Fur Gelje Sherpa held a productive meeting with Eduard Kubato, the newly appointed Director of the State Agency for Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic, in Kathmandu.

High-Level Delegation and Distinguished Presence

Mr. Kubato, a Guinness World Record–holding climber and a prominent figure in his country’s tourism sector, also serves as a member of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and President of the Mountaineering Federation of Kyrgyzstan. His visit to Nepal highlights the growing importance of mountain tourism diplomacy between the two nations.

The meeting was attended by key officials from Nepal’s tourism and mountaineering sectors, including Ram Krishna Lamichhane, Director General of the Department of Tourism; Bodha Raj Bhandari, Second Vice President of NMA; Chandan Thapa, Secretary of NMA; and Sumi Moktan, Treasurer of NMA.

Focus on Bilateral Cooperation in Tourism and Mountaineering

During the discussion, both sides explored various areas of mutual interest, particularly focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in mountaineering, adventure tourism, and knowledge exchange. The dialogue also emphasized opportunities for joint initiatives, promotion of sustainable mountain tourism, and sharing of expertise in high-altitude expedition management.

Additional participants included Central Secretariat Member Gokul Thapa, Central Executive Board Member Furi Gyalzen Sherpa, and Chief Administrative Officer Jinesh Sindurakar, all contributing to the comprehensive engagement between the two delegations.
