Nepal Mountaineering Association Concludes 34th Annual General Meeting with Key Resolutions

The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) successfully held its 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kathmandu, focusing on significant policies, programs, and budgets for the fiscal year 2081/082. The event highlighted the NMA’s commitment to advancing mountain tourism in Nepal, alongside recognizing key contributors to the sector.

During the closed session, General Secretary Mr. Mohan Lamsal presented the NMA’s policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year, while Treasurer Mr. Mukti Pandey detailed the budget and audit report for 2080/081. The reports were discussed thoroughly, with members providing valuable feedback before both documents were approved with minor corrections.

The opening session was marked by the recognition of the top 10 trekking and expedition agencies, honored for their exceptional contribution to revenue generation through the sale of NMA peak permits. Additionally, several dignitaries, NMA staff, and participants of the Mountain Leader Course were acknowledged for their accomplishments.

Honorable Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, addressed the gathering, pledging the government’s continued support to the NMA. He lauded the association’s efforts in promoting Nepal’s mountain tourism globally, stating, “I assure you that the NMA will continue its vital role in maintaining Nepal’s prominence in mountain tourism.”

Minister Pandey also noted that forthcoming amendments to the Tourism Act would incorporate NMA’s suggestions. “We are revising policies, and these changes will be reflected in the new session of the House,” he added.

Other notable attendees, including NMA Chairperson Sonam Geljen Sherpa, MPs Bhim Acharya and Rajendra Bajgain, also stressed the need for the government to further support the NMA’s efforts in boosting Nepal’s tourism sector.

The AGM underscores the NMA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing mountain tourism in Nepal, while ensuring the welfare and recognition of those contributing to its success.
