Nepal Rastra Bank Publishes Today’s Foreign Exchange Rates: USD at NPR 137.57

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has released the official foreign currency exchange rates applicable for today. These rates are used by licensed financial institutions, importers, exporters, and currency exchange service providers across the country to conduct transactions involving foreign currencies. As always, the rates reflect global market fluctuations and domestic monetary policy adjustments. The NRB has emphasized that these figures may be revised depending on real-time market needs and trends.

US Dollar Remains a Benchmark

According to the updated figures published by the central bank, the US dollar (USD) continues to serve as the benchmark foreign currency for most transactions. The buying rate for one US dollar is set at NPR 136.97, while the selling rate stands at NPR 137.57. The strength of the dollar remains steady, continuing its significance for remittances, trade payments, and reserve management.

Euro, Pound Sterling, and Swiss Franc

The European euro (EUR) has also seen stable performance in the Nepali market. The buying rate is set at NPR 156.45, while the selling rate is NPR 157.13. The British pound sterling (GBP) continues to trade at a higher value, reflecting its relative global strength. One pound is being bought at NPR 185.87 and sold at NPR 186.68.

Meanwhile, the Swiss franc (CHF), which is known for its historical stability, is trading at NPR 167.12 for buying and NPR 167.85 for selling. These European currencies play a vital role for Nepali businesses dealing with EU and UK markets, as well as for students and travelers headed to Europe.

Australian, Canadian, and Singaporean Dollar Rates

Among the major international currencies outside Europe, the Australian dollar (AUD) has been listed with a buying rate of NPR 89.14 and a selling rate of NPR 89.53. Similarly, the Canadian dollar (CAD) is being bought at NPR 100.25 and sold at NPR 100.69. These currencies are especially relevant for Nepali migrants and students in Australia and Canada, who rely on regular fund transfers and remittances. The Singapore dollar (SGD), another important currency for Nepali workers and traders, is valued at NPR 106.62 for buying and NPR 107.09 for selling.

Asian Currencies: Yen, Yuan, and Riyals

Moving toward Asian currencies, the Japanese yen (JPY), for a bundle of 10 units, is priced at NPR 9.56 for buying and NPR 9.61 for selling. The Chinese yuan (CNY) remains significant due to growing Nepal–China trade relations. The yuan’s exchange rate is set at NPR 19.08 for buying and NPR 19.16 for selling.

In the Gulf region, the Saudi Arabian riyal (SAR) is listed at NPR 36.52 for buying and NPR 36.68 for selling. Similarly, the Qatari riyal (QAR) has been priced at NPR 37.58 and NPR 37.74, respectively. These figures are particularly relevant for the large number of Nepali migrant workers based in the Middle East.

Other Regional and Global Currencies

Among the other Asian currencies, the Thai baht (THB) is being traded at NPR 4.21 (buying) and NPR 4.23 (selling). The UAE dirham (AED) is priced at NPR 37.29 for buying and NPR 37.46 for selling. The Malaysian ringgit (MYR) stands at NPR 32.38 for buying and NPR 32.52 for selling.

The South Korean won (KRW), quoted per 100 units, is set at NPR 10.09 for buying and NPR 10.14 for selling. This is relevant to growing trade and educational links with South Korea. From the Scandinavian region, the Swedish krona (SEK) is being traded at NPR 14.30 for buying and NPR 14.36 for selling, while the Danish krone (DKK) is being bought at NPR 20.97 and sold at NPR 21.07.

Exchange Rates for Gulf Countries’ Premium Currencies

Some of the highest-valued currencies include those from oil-rich Gulf nations. The Hong Kong dollar (HKD) is trading at NPR 17.46 for buying and NPR 17.53 for selling. The Kuwaiti dinar (KWD), which remains one of the world’s strongest currencies, is being bought at NPR 446.64 and sold at NPR 448.59. Similarly, the Bahraini dinar (BHD) is listed at NPR 363.30 for buying and NPR 364.89 for selling, while the Omani rial (OMR) is trading at NPR 355.79 for buying and NPR 357.35 for selling.

These currencies are crucial for a significant portion of Nepal’s remittance economy, as many Nepalis are employed in Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Indian Rupee Exchange Rate Remains Stable

For the neighboring Indian rupee (INR), which plays a special role in Nepal’s economy due to open border trade and daily transactions, the central bank has fixed the rate for 100 Indian rupees at NPR 160.00 for buying and NPR 160.15 for selling. The near-parity pegging of the Nepali currency to the Indian rupee ensures monetary stability and consistent pricing for cross-border trade and consumption.

NRB’s Clarification on Exchange Rate Policy

The Nepal Rastra Bank has clarified that these official exchange rates are subject to change at any time, depending on market dynamics and policy decisions. It has also noted that the rates set by commercial banks for buying and selling foreign currencies may differ slightly due to competition and service charges. Updated and accurate foreign exchange rates are published regularly on the central bank’s official website, which serves as the most reliable source for traders, travelers, and investors.

As Nepal continues to engage with global markets and attract remittances from its diaspora, these daily updates from the central bank serve as an essential tool for economic planning and financial decision-making.
