Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, has announced the official foreign exchange rates for various international currencies for today. The rates, as fixed by the NRB, serve as a reference for banks and financial institutions in conducting foreign currency transactions, although individual commercial banks may set slightly different rates.
According to the latest figures published by the NRB, the buying rate for one US dollar has been set at NPR 136.13, while the selling rate stands at NPR 136.73. The US dollar remains one of the most influential foreign currencies in Nepal due to its wide use in trade and remittance.
In the European currency market, the exchange rate for one Euro is fixed at NPR 154.94 for buying and NPR 155.63 for selling. Similarly, the British Pound Sterling is trading at NPR 182.25 for buying and NPR 183.05 for selling. The Swiss Franc has been set at NPR 164.99 for buying and NPR 165.71 for selling, reflecting slight fluctuations in global exchange trends.
The Australian Dollar is being exchanged at NPR 87.12 (buying) and NPR 87.51 (selling), while the Canadian Dollar stands at NPR 98.30 and NPR 98.73 respectively. For the Singapore Dollar, the rates are NPR 103.92 for buying and NPR 104.38 for selling.
Among Asian currencies, the Japanese Yen is traded at NPR 9.55 for 10 units on the buying side and NPR 9.59 on the selling side. The Chinese Yuan is listed at NPR 18.72 for buying and NPR 18.80 for selling. The Saudi Arabian Riyal’s rate is NPR 36.29 (buying) and NPR 36.45 (selling), while the Qatari Riyal is at NPR 37.35 and NPR 37.51 respectively.
In addition, the exchange rates for other regional currencies are as follows: the Thai Baht is trading at NPR 4.07 (buying) and NPR 4.09 (selling), the UAE Dirham at NPR 37.06 and NPR 37.22, and the Malaysian Ringgit at NPR 31.46 and NPR 31.60. The South Korean Won, for 100 units, is being exchanged at NPR 9.48 for buying and NPR 9.52 for selling. Meanwhile, the Swedish Kroner has been fixed at NPR 14.12 and NPR 14.18, and the Danish Kroner at NPR 20.76 and NPR 20.85 respectively.
For other currencies, the Hong Kong Dollar stands at NPR 17.55 for buying and NPR 17.62 for selling. Among the Gulf currencies, the Kuwaiti Dinar is notably higher in value, set at NPR 444.55 for buying and NPR 446.51 for selling. The Bahraini Dinar is trading at NPR 361.12 and NPR 362.71, while the Omani Riyal is listed at NPR 353.59 and NPR 355.15 respectively.
Closer to home, the Indian Rupee, which holds a special place in Nepal’s economy due to open border trade and daily transactions, is exchanged at NPR 160.00 for 100 Indian Rupees on the buying side and NPR 160.15 on the selling side.
Nepal Rastra Bank has also clarified that these exchange rates are subject to change at any time based on market demand and international currency fluctuations. The central bank emphasized that while it provides a daily reference rate, the actual rates used by commercial banks may vary depending on their internal policies and real-time market dynamics. It has advised the public to refer to the NRB’s official website for the most up-to-date and verified rates.
This daily publication of exchange rates by NRB plays a crucial role in Nepal’s financial sector, especially for import-export businesses, remittance receivers, and international travelers. As Nepal continues to engage in growing volumes of international trade and receives significant remittance inflows, the foreign exchange rate announced by the central bank becomes an essential tool for both the government and the private sector.
