Showcasing Nepal’s Rich Heritage: Grand Nepali Day Ignites Cultural Pride in Malta

Nepali Day 2025 was celebrated with great energy and pride in Valletta, Malta, on Monday, as the Nepali community came together to welcome the New Year 2082 in style. Waving Nepal’s national flag and dressed in colorful traditional outfits, members of the community brought a true sense of Nepal to Malta. But the day wasn’t just about celebration it was also about sharing Nepal’s beauty, culture, and tourism potential with others.

According to Rems Khanal, President of NRNA Malta, the event saw around 4,000 attendees, both Nepali and Maltese. Various cultural groups including the Tamang, Magar, Newar, Rai, and Purwanchal communities, as well as Nepali Society Malta brought the stage to life with traditional music, dances, and vibrant cultural displays. Performances by the Lok Dohori Cultural Council, NSM Band, and NMB Band filled the air with the sounds of home, while the International Chef Society Malta added its own unique flavor to the event.

Held right next to the Maltese Parliament building, the event drew plenty of attention with its festive vibe. From Lakhey dances to colorful cultural processions, the atmosphere offered a little slice of Nepal in the heart of Malta. Brochures and flyers about Nepal’s travel hotspots were handed out, giving guests a glimpse into the country’s breathtaking beauty and adventure opportunities.

Among the honored guests were Christopher Cutajar, Permanent Secretary of Malta’s Ministry of Foreign and Tourism Affairs, along with several notable figures Simon Alden, President of the Mountaineering Association Malta; Marco Caruana, the first Maltese to climb Mount Everest; Pierre Farrugia, an Everest Base Camp visitor; and many other respected members of the local community. All special guests were warmly welcomed with tokens representing Nepal’s culture and friendship.

In his closing remarks, Rems Khanal thanked the Maltese government, the Honorary Consul General Dr. Jonathan Abela, Everest summiteer Marco Caruana, and all the local and international friends who made the event so memorable.

He shared his gratitude with everyone who worked hard to make Nepali Day 2025 a reality and said he believes the celebration has not only strengthened ties between Nepal and Malta but will also help boost interest in visiting Nepal. Even with limited time for planning, the event turned out to be a powerful display of unity, culture, and pride a moment to remember for the Nepali community in Malta and beyond.
