Nepal Tourism Board Launches Nationwide Linge Ping Drive to Boost Dashain Tourism

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is set to install and operate traditional linge ping (bamboo swings) at various tourist destinations across the country during the upcoming Dashain festival, linking Nepal’s traditional culture and festive practices with tourism promotion. The initiative has been introduced to preserve and promote Nepal’s indigenous traditions while offering both domestic and international visitors an opportunity to experience a distinctive aspect of the country’s Dashain celebrations.

Linge Ping to Be Installed in Tourist Destinations

The Tourism Heritage and Tourism Development Division of the Nepal Tourism Board will coordinate the construction and operation of linge ping in Kathmandu Valley and other tourist destinations across the country. The programme will be implemented in collaboration with local governments, tourism associations and other stakeholders involved in the tourism sector.

The swings will primarily be installed at destinations that attract a significant number of visitors and provide suitable spaces for cultural and recreational activities during the festival. Through the initiative, the NTB aims to integrate traditional Dashain practices into tourism experiences and encourage visitors to engage with Nepal’s living cultural heritage.

Collaboration With Local Governments and Tourism Bodies

The Nepal Tourism Board has partnered with various local governments, tourism development committees and tourism-related organizations for the programme. The collaborating bodies include Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kirtipur Municipality, Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee and Thamel Tourism Development Committee.

The programme also involves tourism-sector organizations such as the Himalayan Rescue Association, Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Hotel Entrepreneurs Federation, as well as hotel and tourism associations from different provinces. Such collaboration is expected to help ensure that the traditional swings are established at suitable tourist locations while allowing local communities and tourism stakeholders to participate in promoting cultural tourism.

Linge Ping to Operate Throughout Dashain

Under the agreements reached between the Tourism Board and the respective local governments and organizations, linge ping will be constructed at selected tourist destinations and operated throughout the Dashain period. The swings are expected to become additional attractions for visitors during the festival, when public spaces, heritage sites and tourist destinations experience increased activity. The initiative also seeks to create festive tourism experiences by showcasing a traditional practice that has long been associated with Dashain celebrations in Nepal.

Safety and Crowd Management Made Mandatory

The agreements have also placed emphasis on the safety of people using the swings. The concerned organizations and local authorities will be required to make necessary safety arrangements, manage crowds and adopt measures aimed at minimizing the risk of accidents while constructing and operating the linge ping. The provisions are intended to ensure that the festival-related tourism activities are conducted safely and responsibly, particularly at destinations expected to receive large numbers of visitors during Dashain.

Swings to Be Removed After Dashain

The agreements also require the concerned parties to remove the swings after the Dashain programme concludes. The organizations responsible for construction and operation will also have to restore the installation sites to their original condition after dismantling the structures. This provision is intended to ensure that temporary festival infrastructure does not negatively affect the appearance or regular use of tourist destinations after the celebrations.

Promoting Culture Through Tourism

The Nepal Tourism Board said the initiative is part of its broader effort to preserve and promote Nepal’s indigenous culture, traditions and festivals while connecting them with tourism. Dashain is Nepal’s largest and most widely celebrated festival, and the linge ping is one of its traditional symbols.

Installing the swings at tourist destinations is expected to provide visitors with a chance to experience this cultural tradition while supporting the promotion of domestic and cultural tourism. Through the programme, the Tourism Board seeks to make traditional festivals an integral part of the tourism experience and encourage greater interaction between visitors and Nepal’s cultural heritage.
