NEPSE Index Declines by 5.99 Points; Hotels and Tourism Index Continues Downtrend

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index continued its downward momentum for the second consecutive trading day, shedding 5.99 points (0.22%) to close at 2,640.96 on Wednesday. This follows a loss of 11.97 points in the previous session, signaling a cautious market sentiment among investors.

The benchmark index opened at 2,643.85 and experienced a day of fluctuating trade, reaching an intraday high of 2,661.77 before dipping to a low of 2,635.30. The day’s total turnover amounted to Rs. 7.97 Arba, with 17,108,809 shares changing hands through 59,130 transactions across 311 listed companies.

At the end of the trading day, the market capitalization stood at Rs. 43.99 Kharba, while the float market capitalization was recorded at Rs. 14.82 Kharba.

Hotel and Tourism Index Continues to Fall

The Hotels and Tourism Index, a key indicator for the hospitality and travel sector, also extended its losses, declining by 32.80 points (0.48%) to settle at 6,738.66. In the previous session, the index had already fallen by 32.11 points, reflecting continued investor caution in the tourism sector.

Today, the sectoral index opened at 6,771.47, touched a high of 6,812.53, and dipped to a low of 6,711.56 before closing in the red. The consistent drop suggests potential sectoral concerns or profit-taking following a previously bullish run.

Market analysts suggest that investor uncertainty ahead of potential economic policy changes and global cues may be contributing to the short-term correction observed in both the overall market and the tourism sector. Despite the decline, the healthy trading volume indicates that market participation remains active.

For investors tracking the Hotels and Tourism Index, the ongoing decline could present short-term challenges but may also offer opportunities for long-term positioning depending on Nepal’s tourism recovery and infrastructure development momentum.
