NEPSE Index Declines by 31.43 Points, Hotel and Tourism Sector Records Notable Losses

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant drop today, shedding 31.43 points (1.19%) to close at 2,596.82. This follows a minor loss of 5.60 points in the previous trading session, highlighting a continued downward trend in the market.

The trading day began at 2,626.62, with the index experiencing fluctuations throughout the session. NEPSE reached an intraday high of 2,634.57 but also faced a sharp decline, hitting a low of 2,593.18 before settling below the 2,600 mark.

The Hotel and Tourism Index, which reflects the performance of the tourism sector within the stock market, also registered a notable decline. The index fell by 56.46 points (0.87%) to close at 6,399.96. This comes after a previous session’s loss of 27.87 points, indicating a cumulative downturn for the sector.

Similar to the overall market trend, the Hotel and Tourism Index saw significant intraday movement. The trading session began at 6,456.43, with the index peaking at 6,519.33 during the day. However, a downward trajectory brought it to a low of 6,392.26, where it eventually closed.

Today’s losses underscore the volatile nature of Nepal’s stock market, particularly within sectors sensitive to economic conditions such as tourism. Analysts suggest that investor sentiment may remain cautious amid broader market trends and uncertainties affecting the tourism sector.

The continued decline in both the NEPSE Index and the Hotel and Tourism Index reflects challenges that could impact investment confidence. Stakeholders will be closely monitoring upcoming sessions for signs of recovery or further decline.
