The Myagdi district, known for its stunning landscapes and trekking routes, has witnessed significant infrastructural development with the construction of eight new suspension bridges in the fiscal year 2080/081 BS. Additionally, three more bridges are currently under construction in rural areas, further enhancing the region’s accessibility for both locals and tourists.
These bridges were constructed through a collaborative effort involving the Gandaki Province Government, the Trail Bridge Sector Wide Approach (TB SWAp), the Trail Bridge Support Unit (TBSU), local levels, the local community, and a community organization. Dilmaya Bitalu, an official from the implementing community organization, highlighted that the total investment for these projects reached Rs 200 million.
The newly built bridges span key rivers in the region, including the Myagdikhola in Malika Rural Municipality Wards No. 5 and 6, and Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality Wards No. 4 and 7. In Annapurna Rural Municipality, two additional trail bridges were constructed over Dobillakhola and Thulokhola.
Of particular note is the 126-metre-long suspension bridge over the Kaligandaki River, which has significantly improved travel between Bhurung Tatopani and Paudwar Tatopani. This bridge is expected to boost tourism by making it easier for trekkers and visitors to explore these remote yet beautiful areas.
The Infrastructure Development Office of Gandaki Province Government has also reported ongoing construction of additional bridges in Beni Municipality-7, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-8, and Malika Rural Municipality-4. These developments are anticipated to further enhance the region’s connectivity, attracting more tourists and supporting the local economy.
