A newly constructed view tower in Thaha Municipality-9, Makawanpur, has been officially handed over to the local municipality, marking a significant step toward promoting tourism in the region. The handover ceremony was held on Wednesday, with representatives from both the provincial government and the municipality present to witness the event.

The program was graced by Bagmati Province Culture and Tourism Minister Suresh Shrestha, who highlighted the importance of the project for local tourism. The official handover was conducted by Roshan Srivastava, Head of the Tourism Development Project Hetauda, to Thaha Municipality Mayor Bishnu Bista. The ceremony was also attended by the deputy mayor, ward chairpersons, and other local officials, signaling strong collaboration between provincial and municipal authorities.
Although the handover was informal, an agreement between the Tourism Development Project Hetauda and Thaha Municipality ensures that the tower will soon be officially launched and operated. Under the agreement, the provincial government will receive a portion of the revenue generated from the tower, promoting sustainable tourism development and shared benefits for both local and provincial stakeholders.
Boosting Tourism and Local Development
During his speech, Minister Shrestha expressed confidence that the new view tower would become a major attraction for tourists visiting Thaha Municipality. He emphasized that such initiatives would help promote local tourism, generate employment, and strengthen the region’s economy. The minister also stated that the provincial government plans to explore additional opportunities to further develop tourism in Makawanpur and the surrounding areas.
Project Details and Investment
The view tower was constructed under the ‘Chitlang Hill Station Package Program’ (2076-2078 BS), an initiative led by the provincial government. The project included not only the viewing tower but also a creation hall, toilet facilities, retaining wall, gate, guard house, and other supporting infrastructure. The total cost of the project was Rs 52.747 million, including price adjustments, and it was completed in two phases, demonstrating careful planning and phased execution.
Part of a Broader Tourism Development Initiative
This view tower is part of a larger effort by the Bagmati Province government to promote tourism in scenic areas. Since 2076 BS, the provincial government has constructed a total of 11 view towers across nine districts, including Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Chitwan, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Dhading, and Dolakha. The total investment for these towers amounts to Rs 328.433 million, highlighting the province’s commitment to expanding tourism infrastructure and accessibility.
