The Newar community in Portugal has celebrated the Biska (Bisket) Jatra. Organized by Newa: Khal Portugal, the festival was marked with a special program in the capital city of Lisbon on Tuesday. On the occasion of the Jatra, a special worship ritual of Bhairav was performed by Newar tradition. Participants were offered tika, dhwaja (sacred flags), swayambhuji, and sagun during the celebration.
The program also featured traditional Nepali and Newari cuisines, along with cultural performances reflecting Newar art and culture. Gathering in one place, the Newar community exchanged greetings for Biska Jatra Nakha and the New Year 2082. Amrit Ratna Shakya, the coordinator of Khal, shared that the Jatra was celebrated on foreign soil with the aim of preserving and promoting Newar customs, traditions, language, religion, and culture.
