Night Travel Advisory Issued for Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road

The District Administration Office of Myagdi has issued a travel advisory urging the public to avoid nighttime travel on the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road due to the heightened risk of floods and landslides during the monsoon season.

Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal highlighted the dangers of traveling at night, stating, “Night travel is extremely hazardous as it complicates rescue operations if travelers are caught in landslides or floods.” In response to recent incidents, including a landslide at Baisari in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 that damaged an eco-van and required the rescue of three passengers, precautionary measures are being taken. Warning signboards will be placed at approximately six locations in Myagdi, and traffic police will be deployed in Beni, Galeshwar, Bhurung Tatopani, and Dana to inform evening travelers about landslide-prone areas.

The Beni-Lete section of the Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project, part of the Kali Gandaki Corridor, spans 38 kilometers and contains 35 major and minor landslide zones. The project has identified several landslides, including those at Baisari, Sirubari, Guithe, and Khambhitta, as extremely hazardous. Other risky areas include Galeshwar, Tatopani, Latakhola, Rupsechhara, and Kaprebhir, with management costs estimated to exceed NPR 700 million.

To enhance safety, the District Traffic Police Office has been conducting awareness programs to educate drivers and passengers about the potential dangers during the monsoon season and necessary safety measures.
