The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has installed a new official signage at the summit of Chulu East (6,584 meters), aiming to strengthen mountaineering documentation and enhance the recognition of successful summit attempts.
The signage, which features the NMA flag along with essential summit information, was installed under the initiative of NMA board member Sandesh Sherpa. The initiative is expected to help climbers clearly identify the true summit while also improving the verification process for summit certifications issued by the association.

Supporting Accurate Summit Verification
According to the NMA, the newly installed summit board will serve as an important reference point for climbers reaching the top of Chulu East. Climbing teams attempting the peak have been requested to capture summit photographs with the signage visible in the background.
Such photographic evidence will assist the association in verifying summit claims and issuing official climbing certificates more efficiently. Summit documentation has become an important aspect of mountaineering administration as the number of climbers attempting Himalayan peaks continues to grow every year.

Enhancing Climber Experience and Safety
The installation of the summit signage is also expected to improve the overall climbing experience by clearly marking the peak’s highest point. In many high-altitude expeditions, climbers can face confusion due to snow-covered ridges, multiple high points, and challenging weather conditions. By providing a visible marker at the summit, the initiative helps ensure that climbers can easily identify the exact summit location, reducing uncertainty during the final stages of an ascent.
Promoting Responsible Mountaineering
The Nepal Mountaineering Association emphasized that such efforts are part of its broader mission to promote responsible and well-documented mountaineering activities in Nepal’s Himalayas. The organization has been working to improve safety standards, environmental responsibility, and proper documentation for climbers on peaks under its jurisdiction.

Located in the Annapurna region, Chulu East is one of the popular trekking peaks managed by the association. The peak attracts climbers from around the world due to its technical challenges and breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.
With the installation of the new summit signage, NMA hopes to further support climbers, strengthen verification procedures, and enhance the credibility of mountaineering records from Nepal’s high-altitude expeditions.
