The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) welcomed a delegation from the Karakoram Mountain Guides Association (KMGA), Pakistan, during an official visit to the NNMGA office. The meeting brought together representatives of the two mountain guide organizations to discuss professional cooperation, knowledge sharing and the development of international-standard mountain guiding practices in the region.
The KMGA delegation was led by Vice President Saad Munawar, while the NNMGA team was led by President Tul Singh Gurung. Members of the NNMGA Central Executive Board (CEB), renowned mountaineer and IFMGA/NNMGA Mountain Guide Mingma Gyalje Sherpa (Mingma G), and other representatives of the association were also present during the meeting.
Focus on Regional Mountain Guide Development
The discussions focused primarily on strengthening cooperation between mountain guide organizations in Nepal and Pakistan, particularly in the areas of mountain guide education, professional development and internationally recognized guiding standards. During the meeting, both organizations expressed their commitment to working together to further establish and develop IFMGA-standard mountain guide education and professional development in the region.
The initiative is aimed at contributing to the professionalization of mountain guiding and creating opportunities for mountain guides to enhance their knowledge, technical capabilities and professional practices.
With both Nepal and Pakistan home to some of the world’s most significant mountain destinations, the representatives discussed the value of greater institutional cooperation in strengthening the profession and supporting the development of qualified mountain guides.
