The Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) has issued a notice regarding the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card-checking process in Syabrubesi, Langtang region. It has come to TAAN’s attention that the Tourist Police Unit in Syabrubesi has been selectively checking TIMS cards, focusing only on trekkers accompanied by trekking guides or assistant guides from registered agencies, while allowing Free Individual Trekkers (FITs) to proceed without the required TIMS cards.
In response to complaints from member agencies, TAAN has discussed the matter with the Head of the Tourist Police Office at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. Both parties have agreed that trekking guides will not face any penalties or harassment for not carrying TIMS cards until further notice is provided by TAAN. This update will be shared through official TAAN channels and other relevant platforms.
TAAN is currently working with the Nepal Tourism Board to devise a concrete plan for the effective implementation of the TIMS card system in the Langtang region and beyond.
