A man has tragically died in a light aircraft crash in the southeastern Australian state of Victoria on Friday, according to police reports. The incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. local time in Redesdale, a small town located approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Melbourne.
Victoria Police confirmed that the man, whose identity has not yet been formally released, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which took place on private property.
Local resident Ashley Scott, who was nearby at the time, reported hearing a loud explosion. Speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Scott said he immediately contacted emergency services and rushed to the crash site, where he found the aircraft fully engulfed in flames.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
