One of two missing tourists on a Himalayan expedition has been located, while the search for the second tourist continues. Two weeks ago, 50-year-old Marek Holeska from the Czech Republic went missing along with his Slovakian companion, 34-year-old Onrej Husarke, during a trekking expedition to Yala Peak in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-3, at an elevation of 7,234 meters.
According to local tourism operators, Holeska made contact on Friday evening from the Higher Guest House in Kyanjin, Langtang. This was confirmed by Rasuwa District Police Chief Keshav Bhattarai.
However, his Slovakian companion, Husarke, remains unaccounted for. Senior pilot Captain Vivek Khadka of Altitude Air reported that during a two-day aerial search on Friday and Saturday, a sleeping bag was spotted in a ravine approximately 30 meters deep, believed to belong to Husarke. Despite extensive aerial searches above Kyanjin on Friday, adverse weather conditions forced the helicopter to return to the capital. The sighting of the sleeping bag occurred during another search attempt on Saturday morning.
In a separate incident, a 43-year-old German tourist, Robert George Newbar, sustained a leg injury while trekking to Gosainkunda. He was stranded mid-route and was rescued by Altitude Air’s helicopter from Lauribina Pass. Newbar is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Sorhakhutte, as reported by Altitude Air.
The search and rescue teams remain committed to locating Husarke and ensuring the safety of all trekkers in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
