Rampur Municipality in Palpa has announced a ban on the slaughter of animals and birds on the days of Aunsi (New Moon) and Ekadashi. This decision has been made in consideration of religious beliefs, traditions, and public health, according to a statement from the municipality.
The municipality issued a notice requesting the public to refrain from animal slaughter on these specific days to maintain religious harmony and avoid impacting religious sentiments. The notice emphasized that abstaining from animal slaughter on Aunsi and Ekadashi would help preserve religious tolerance and cultural harmony while also offering health benefits.
The notice stated, “Refraining from the slaughter of animals and birds on Aunsi and Ekadashi will not only uphold religious tolerance and harmony but will also have no negative impact on religious faith, and it is beneficial from a health perspective. Therefore, this notice is published to request everyone to avoid animal slaughter on these days.”
Municipality Chief Raman Bahadur Thapa highlighted that the ban is in line with religious and cultural traditions, as the slaughter of animals on Ekadashi and Aunsi is considered inappropriate by many. The decision aims to respect and continue these religious practices, urging residents to comply with the guidelines.
The decision to prohibit animal slaughter on these days was taken after complaints from residents about violations of religious beliefs during these significant days. The municipality has warned that failure to adhere to this directive will result in legal action against those found violating the rule.
The ban aims to respect the sentiments of the community while promoting health benefits associated with abstaining from meat consumption on these culturally important days.
