Panche Baja Competition to be Held in Syangja on the Occasion of Children’s Day

On the occasion of Children’s Day, a district-level Panche Baja Competition will be organized in Syangja. The event is being hosted by the Social Development Office of Syangja, and it will feature children’s groups competing in the traditional musical ensemble.

The competition is set to take place on August 13 at the premises of Tribhuvan Adarsha Secondary School in the district headquarters, according to the head of the Social Development Office, Jeevan Poudel.

“This competition is expected to play a crucial role in transferring traditional skills from the older generation to the younger ones,” said Poudel. “Along with skill transfer, it will also be instrumental in preserving our cultural heritage.”

The traditional Panche Baja ensemble, commonly used during celebrations, weddings, and festivals, is also seen as a way to support children’s income generation, Poudel added. The competition aims to encourage the preservation of cultural traditions and musical practices at the school level.

Children from grades 1 to 12, as well as groups from neighborhoods, child clubs, and local wards, are eligible to participate. “Letters have already been sent to all 11 municipalities in the district, inviting participation from schools, child clubs, and community groups,” Poudel stated. “Some groups have already expressed interest.”

The winners of the competition will receive cash prizes of NPR 6,000, NPR 5,000, and NPR 4,000 for first, second, and third place, respectively, along with certificates.
