Parliamentary Committee Directs Government to Address Issues Surrounding Taragaon Development Committee

The International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives has instructed the government to swiftly present an action plan addressing the issues and potential solutions related to the Taragaon Development Committee.

In a discussion held today with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation and the Taragaon Development Committee, the committee directed the government to submit a detailed report on the movable and immovable properties under the Taragaon Development Committee. The action plan should ensure the proper utilization and management of these assets.

The committee also emphasized the need to revise the agreement between the Taragaon Development Committee and Taragaon Regency Hotel Limited in a way that serves the interests of the state. The revised agreement and action plan should be submitted to the committee as soon as possible.

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal called for detailed information on the current status of all hotels and resorts operated under the committee. He highlighted the long-standing disputes surrounding the Taragaon Development Committee and stressed the need for the government to develop a clear vision for a long-term resolution. “Even though the committee and the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority have differing views on the matter, the government must work towards a definitive solution,” he stated.

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, noted that Taragaon Regency Hotel Limited has been acting in a manner detrimental to the state. He pointed out that the lack of coordination between the commission and the ministry has hindered the implementation of directives issued by various past committees.

Committee member Narayan Prakash Saud suggested advancing efforts to resolve the issues and emphasized the necessity of bringing forth a solution-oriented action plan. Another member, Bhim Prasad Acharya, expressed concern over the apparent land grabbing under the name of the Taragaon Development Committee and agreed on the need for an action plan.

Suresh Joshi, Chairman of the Taragaon Development Committee, acknowledged that the committee alone cannot resolve the issues and stressed the need for government support.

During the session, MPs discussed the share structure, investment, and returns of the Taragaon Development Committee in Taragaon Regency Hotel Limited, as well as recommendations made by various committees over time.
