Parliamentary Subcommittee Discusses Pokhara International Airport Progress and Challenges

Under the direction of Member of Parliament Rajendra Lingden, a parliamentary subcommittee met yesterday to discuss the current state of Rithepani Danda and Pokhara International Airport. To get information on funding requirements, building difficulties, operational concerns, and airport future planning, the committee held discussions with interested parties.

Chairman Lingden underlined how critical it is to resolve anomalies and implement accountability measures to identify those who bear responsibility. Pokhara International Airport was opened two and a half years ago, but international flights have not yet taken off. This has prompted calls for immediate action to start these operations.

Gandaki Pradesh’s Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey raised worries that Pokhara would lose its standing as a tourist destination until the airport is fully operating. He pleaded with the federal government to move quickly to begin offering international flight services.

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya outlined the difficulties brought on by the airport’s lack of a pre-construction business plan. He suggested working on diplomatic initiatives to ease air travel with nearby nations.

Despite decades of expectation for the airport’s completion, Anand Raj Mulmi, the former Central President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, voiced displeasure about the protracted delay in international flights.
