A monitoring team from the Planning Commission, led by Commission Member Dr. Ramkumar Phuyal, faced a challenging return to Kathmandu after their plane was unable to land at Bhairahawa Airport due to adverse weather conditions.
The team, which included former Deputy Prime Minister and CPN-UML Vice President Bishnu Paudel, was scheduled to depart for Bhairahawa on Buddha Air’s 7:55 AM flight. However, the flight was significantly delayed, taking off only at noon.
Upon reaching Bhairahawa, the plane encountered severe weather conditions, preventing it from landing. The aircraft had to return to Kathmandu, eventually landing at 1:03 PM. The failed landing attempt caused distress among passengers, with some reportedly in tears during the flight.
The Planning Commission’s itinerary included monitoring the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Butwal Yarn Factory, and Dhowadi Iron Industry, with plans to return on Friday. Due to the weather-induced landing issues, the monitoring schedule was disrupted. After the aircraft returned to Kathmandu, Dr. Phuyal promptly reported back to the office at Singha Durbar.
