The Pokhara Metropolitan City has declared 2025 as the “Visit Pokhara Year.” With a target of attracting 2 million tourists, Mayor Dhanraj Acharya believes that 500,000 tourists from China’s Sichuan province alone will visit the tourism capital of Nepal this year. He mentioned that many cities in China have sister-city relationships with the tourism capital of Nepal, which will help achieve the target. He also highlighted the convenience of direct flights from Chengdu to Pokhara, making travel even easier for tourists.

The Sichuan province’s citizens are largely unaware of Nepal and Pokhara as a tourism destination. However, tour guides who attended a sales mission in Chengdu and Chongqing are now eager to send tourists to the tourism capital of Nepal, as they had no prior knowledge of the place.

The Nepal Tourism Board, which organized the sales mission, emphasized the importance of promoting Nepal and Pokhara to Chinese tourists. Over 200 Chinese tour guides participated, and the Chinese government has also declared 2025 as the “Visit Nepal Year.” The objective of this campaign is to increase the number of Chinese tourists to Nepal, with a special focus on direct flights from Chinese cities to Nepal’s airports.

Tourism professionals from the tourism capital of Nepal are also promoting the city through chartered flights from Chengdu. The ongoing flights have already sold tickets for 1,250 tourists, and future flights will bring even more visitors. The initiative aims to strengthen tourism relations between Nepal and China, as both countries celebrate their long-standing ties. The tourism capital of Nepal’s Chief Administrative Officer, Shivaraj Chaulagain, urged the citizens of Chongqing to visit Pokhara, emphasizing the city’s natural beauty, culture, and adventure tourism.
