Pokhara Metropolitan City has approved a significant budget program aimed at bolstering its tourism sector in the upcoming fiscal year 2081/82. Deputy Mayor Manjudevi Gurung presented the budget in the 15th session of the municipal council held from Ashadh 10 to 15, where it received unanimous approval following extensive deliberation and input.
The city has earmarked NPR 7.51 billion for the fiscal year, with allocations from various sources including NPR 4.22 billion from federal grants, NPR 9.63 billion from provincial grants, and substantial amounts from internal, federal revenue sharing, local revenue, and royalties.
Highlighting the tourism sector, Deputy Mayor Gurung emphasized initiatives under the Economic Act of 2081 and the Development Act, crucial for the city’s economic growth and infrastructure development. The budget underscores priorities such as enhancing tourism infrastructure, promoting sustainable tourism practices, and fostering economic opportunities through initiatives that support local businesses, startups, and community-driven projects.
Key areas of focus include green growth, disaster resilience, and the advancement of technology-driven services to ensure a seamless experience for tourists and residents alike. The budget also prioritizes the empowerment of women, marginalized groups, and disadvantaged communities through targeted economic programs and inclusive development strategies.
