Prakash Gurung Successfully Summits Manaslu

Renowned mountaineer Prakash Gurung, a resident of Aabukhaireni Rural Municipality-2 in Tanahun, has successfully scaled Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest peak in the world. Gurung completed the ascent within 13 days, starting from the Manaslu base camp.

He began his journey from Kathmandu on Bhadra 14, reaching the base camp by Bhadra 22, and successfully summited Manaslu last Friday. Gurung was accompanied by an American tourist during the climb. Sharing his joy Gurung said, “Despite facing all adversities, including harsh weather conditions, we successfully reached the summit of Manaslu. The winds were fierce, and the cold was extreme, but our determination led us to the top.”

Manaslu stands at an altitude of 8,156 meters, making it one of the most challenging climbs in the world.

Gurung is no stranger to mountaineering feats, having already scaled Mount Everest twice. He first summited Everest on Jestha 11, 2080 BS, and then again on Jestha 7, 2081 BS. His mountaineering career began in 2014 after entering the tourism business and receiving mountaineering training in 2015.

In addition to Manaslu, Gurung has successfully climbed other notable peaks, including Lhotse, Mera Peak, and Manaslu. He mentioned the challenges faced during his early days in the industry when Sherpas dominated the mountaineering guide profession. “I have been working to promote Nepal to the world through tourism,” he remarked.

Last year, Gurung also made history by becoming the first person to summit Khumjunggar Mountain (6,759 meters) in Upper Mustang during the cold winter season, a feat previously unattempted.

Gurung’s accomplishments continue to contribute to Nepal’s growing recognition as a hub for mountaineering and adventure tourism.
