President Ram Chandra Paudel emphasized the importance of preserving the diverse traditions, customs, and cultures of all ethnic groups in Nepal. He stated that as Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multicultural, and multi-religious country, every community living here has its own unique culture.
While inaugurating the Sonam Lhosar festival by lighting a lamp at the President’s residence, Shital Niwas, today, President Paudel expressed his belief that festivals like Sonam Lhosar help promote mutual harmony, tolerance, and brotherhood among all Nepalis, strengthening national unity in the diverse Nepali society.
President Paudel highlighted the significant presence of the Tamang community in Nepal and stated that Lhosar holds a unique and important place in the social, cultural, and religious life of the Tamang people. On this occasion, Lama Gurus performed special prayers and mantras, and there was also a cultural presentation of Tamang’s traditional Tamba and bamboo performances at Shital Niwas.
President Paudel clarified that the Lhosar festival, based on mathematical astrology, is an integral part of Tamang culture and reflects the origin, civilization, cultural existence, and identity of the Tamang community. He also wished everyone good health, prosperity, progress, and the well-being of all humankind on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar. According to the Manjushri calendar, Sonam Lhosar is celebrated every year on the first day of the Magh Shukla (the waxing moon of Magh month).
