Historic Thailand Visit: Prime Minister Oli’s Bold BIMSTEC Summit Leadership

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has informed the Parliament about his official visit to Thailand and participation in the BIMSTEC Summit. Addressing the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli highlighted that this will be the first time a Nepalese Prime Minister will embark on an official visit to Thailand after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 65 years ago.

The visit will commence on Chaitra 19 (April 2, 2025) and marks a significant milestone, as Bangkok, the gateway to neighboring countries, has not witnessed an official visit by a Nepalese Prime Minister before. Prime Minister Oli emphasized the importance of this visit, underscoring the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During his stay in Thailand, Prime Minister Oli will engage in talks with the King and other high-ranking officials. The visit will also see the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) related to tourism and cultural cooperation. Additionally, six MOUs will be signed between the private sectors of both countries, under the presence of the two Prime Ministers.

Prime Minister Oli will also meet with prominent Thai business leaders and deliver a speech at the Asian Institute of Technology. On March 22, he will address the BIMSTEC Summit, where he is expected to hold side-line discussions with the heads of state from other member nations. This visit is poised to be a defining moment in Nepal’s diplomatic history, strengthening ties with Thailand and advancing regional cooperation in the BIMSTEC framework.
