Promotion of Historic Nadayi Cave in Jumla Set to Boost Tourism

The historic religious site of Nadayi Cave, located in Tila Rural Municipality-9 of Jumla, is set to be promoted as a prime tourist destination. Ward Chairperson Dhan Bahadur Rawat announced that the municipality has called for bids worth NPR 8.126 million to develop essential infrastructure to establish the cave as a religious tourism site.

The allocated budget, received as a conditional grant from the federal government, will fund the restoration and preservation of a temple within the cave premises. Rawat outlined that the grant will cover the construction of a Dharamshala (pilgrims’ rest house), road lighting, railings, and photo installations, enhancing the area’s appeal and accessibility.

According to Rawat, the federal government has also allocated additional funds to connect the site with a road network. “By preserving and developing the neglected Nadayi Cave, we aim to enhance the tourism potential of this area,” Rawat remarked. “The cave, which is around 200 meters long, features a unique natural formation resembling a cow’s udder, with a continuous flow of water from it. Protecting and promoting this site could improve local incomes and attract both domestic and international tourists.”

Despite its historical significance, locals have expressed concerns over the cave’s lack of promotion and the challenges visitors face due to the absence of proper roads. Samir Bohora, a resident, noted that with more awareness and promotion of this natural cave, tourist arrivals could increase, directly benefiting the local community.

Hemraj Rawat from Tila-9 echoed these sentiments, stating that limited development focus has hindered the growth of domestic tourism. He believes that enhanced infrastructure and promotion would attract a steady flow of both domestic and foreign tourists, ultimately transforming the village’s economy.

To further raise awareness, Ward Chairperson Rawat shared that a conference dedicated to promoting the cave at national and international levels is planned for this year. “Our strategy includes infrastructure development as well as a conference for promotion, which will address local concerns and support our vision,” Rawat added.

With these initiatives, the historic Nadayi Cave is poised to become a significant attraction, drawing more visitors to Jumla and uplifting the local economy.
