Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali has celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade as one of Rwanda’s most prominent hospitality and events landmarks and a major contributor to the country’s growing reputation as a leading Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destination in Africa.
Since opening in 2016, the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre has hosted world leaders, international organisations, multinational companies, major sporting events, cultural celebrations and thousands of delegates from around the world. Over the past decade, the hotel has expanded its role beyond accommodation and events, becoming a symbol of Rwanda’s ambition, innovation and ongoing transformation.
Anniversary Celebrates Excellence, Innovation and Community Impact
The anniversary was celebrated under the theme “Celebrating a Decade of Excellence, Innovation and Community Impact.” The programme recognised the people, partnerships and achievements that have contributed to the property’s success while outlining its vision for the next decade. The anniversary programme was structured around three flagship initiatives: Legacy Week, the Legacy Gala and the KCC Impact Programme.
Legacy Week featured a 10-day celebration highlighting the hotel’s contribution to Rwanda’s economic and tourism development. The Legacy Gala brought together approximately 350 stakeholders and partners, while the KCC Impact Programme focused on community and sustainability initiatives conducted before and after the anniversary celebrations.
Focus on Sustainability and Community Development
As part of the celebrations, Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali carried out several initiatives reflecting its commitment to sustainability, community engagement, employee wellbeing and talent development. The activities included the planting of 100 trees, community outreach programmes in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages, a Youth Career Day aimed at supporting future hospitality professionals, employee wellness activities and recognition of long-serving team members.
The hotel also launched a documentary titled “10 Years of Impact,” which highlights the history and evolution of the property. A dedicated media programme further showcased the hotel’s contribution to tourism, employment, business events and Rwanda’s wider economy.
Supporting Rwanda’s Business Tourism Ambitions
Sandra Kneubühler, Managing Director, Sub-Saharan Africa, Radisson Hotel Group, said the hotel had played an important role in strengthening Rwanda’s position as a leading destination for business tourism and international events. “Over the past ten years, Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali has played an important role in strengthening Rwanda’s position as one of Africa’s leading destinations for business tourism and international events. This milestone reflects the dedication of our teams, the confidence of our partners and the strong vision that continues to drive Rwanda’s hospitality sector forward,” she said. She added that the group remained committed to supporting Rwanda’s tourism ambitions, developing local talent and creating meaningful value for the communities in which it operates.
Looking Ahead to the Next Decade
Nice Uwase, Acting General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali, said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the property’s achievements while maintaining a strong focus on the future. “While this milestone allowed us to reflect on everything that has been achieved, our focus remains firmly on the future. We look forward to building on this strong foundation, creating new opportunities for our people and partners, and continuing to deliver memorable experiences for guests and delegates from Rwanda and around the world,” she said.
The 10th anniversary has reinforced Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali’s position as a national icon, a platform for international engagement and a catalyst for the continued growth of Rwanda’s hospitality and business tourism sectors.
The celebration also highlighted the growing importance of the MICE sector in Rwanda, with major hotels and convention facilities playing an increasingly important role in attracting international conferences, corporate events and global gatherings to the country. Through its hospitality infrastructure, community initiatives and focus on talent development, Radisson Blu Kigali has continued to contribute to Rwanda’s broader tourism and economic transformation.
