District Hotel Association Kathmandu to Host Tree Plantation on World Environment Day with Vision of a Green and Beautiful City

In observance of World Environment Day, a special environmental campaign will be organized on June 5 (Jestha 22) with the shared vision of building a green and beautiful city. The event will take place at Bishnumati Link Road, Ward No. 19 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, beginning at 7:00 AM.

The program is being jointly organized by the Nepal-Greece Friendship and Cultural Association, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 19, and the District Hotel Business Association Kathmandu. The campaign will focus on climate change awareness and mitigation, emphasizing the importance of greenery in urban areas.

Under the theme “Towards a Beautiful and Green City”, the program aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation and climate action, with tree plantation as one of the key activities. This initiative will serve as a symbolic yet impactful step towards mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting sustainable urban development.

Community Action for Environment Climate Resilience

The program will be inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Guest, Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh, who is expected to emphasize government commitments towards sustainable urban development. However, much of the attention will be on the grassroots leadership demonstrated by the community and local organizations.

Manoj Newa, President of the Nepal-Greece Friendship and Cultural Association, expressed the significance of this initiative: “If we want to build a beautiful and green city, we must start from our own neighborhoods. This event is not just symbolic; it’s a commitment to our environment and future generations. Climate change is a global issue, but our local solutions can create meaningful impact.” He further stressed that the collaboration among municipalities, local businesses, and residents is key to transforming Kathmandu into a sustainable, eco-friendly urban center.

Speaking about the campaign, Mr. Suresh Baral, President of the District Hotel Business Association Kathmandu, stated, “A clean and green environment is the foundation of sustainable tourism and urban living. We believe that initiatives like this will not only enhance the local ecosystem but also uplift the image of Kathmandu as an eco-conscious city.” The campaign will mobilize local residents, hotel entrepreneurs, youth clubs, and environmental activists to participate in the plantation drive and awareness activities.

The District Hotel Business’ Association Kathmandu, a key co-organizer of the event, plays a crucial role in this environmental movement. Recognizing that the hospitality sector is a significant part of the urban ecosystem, the association is actively promoting eco-conscious tourism. It encourages its members to adopt sustainable practices such as waste segregation, water conservation, and the use of eco-friendly energy sources. The association’s involvement aims to align tourism with environmental stewardship, reducing the sector’s carbon footprint while enhancing the city’s green appeal.

The World Environment Day program in Ward No. 19 is a step towards fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among Kathmandu’s residents and stakeholders, reaffirming that sustainable urban living is achievable through collective effort.
