Ramechhap’s Manthali Municipality Aims to Develop Key Tourist Destinations

Manthali Municipality in Ramechhap has initiated discussions with stakeholders to develop potential destinations within the municipality into major national tourist spots.

As part of this initiative, the municipality is organizing a grand interaction program in Kathmandu with stakeholders to create a comprehensive plan for tourism promotion. The event, scheduled for Asar 20 at the Tourism Board, will see the participation of representatives from all three tiers of government, private sector entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders. Mayor Lab Shrestha mentioned that the municipality aims to develop a master plan for tourism in the area based on the discussions held at this event.

Currently, the Manthali Airport, located in the heart of the municipality, operates flights to the Everest region during the tourist season. Daily, dozens of flights carry tourists from Manthali Airport to Lukla. However, due to the lack of quality hotels and other infrastructures, tour companies often transport tourists directly to Kathmandu.

To address this issue, a comprehensive discussion involving tourism entrepreneurs will be held to explore what facilities need to be added to encourage tourists to spend some time in Manthali and its surrounding areas.

“Manthali Airport is very busy during the tourist season, with hundreds of tourists traveling between Manthali and Lukla daily, but none stay in Manthali,” said Mayor Shrestha. “We have discussed this issue with our friends from the Tourism Entrepreneurs Federation, and we concluded to organize a grand event involving all three levels of government, the private sector, and stakeholders.”

This will be the first program organized by the municipality that brings together all tourism-related bodies and stakeholders in one place.

The program will include participation from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, the Tourism Ministry of Bagmati Province, the Industry and Tourism Committee of Bagmati Provincial Assembly, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Board, and private sector tourism organizations.
