Regular International Flights from Pokhara International Airport to Begin Soon: Tourism Minister Pandey

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Mr. Badri Prasad Pandey, has announced that regular international flights from Pokhara International Airport will commence within a few months.

Speaking at an interactive program titled “Gandaki’s Tourism and Economic Takeoff” organized by Sunaulo Nepal Online Private Limited in Pokhara, Minister Pandey stated that Himalayan Airlines, Nepal’s national flag carrier, is preparing to launch flights on the Pokhara-Lhasa route.

“Himalayan Airlines is set to start flights in the coming months, with the approval process now in its final stages. The government has also urged Nepal Airlines to cut down flights on other routes, if necessary, to initiate international flights from Pokhara,” he shared.

He further mentioned that efforts are underway to begin international flights from Pokhara to destinations in India and other countries. Recently, Minister Pandey discussed the matter extensively with India’s Civil Aviation Minister and the Chinese Ambassador, emphasizing the need to strengthen Pokhara’s international connectivity.

Highlighting the potential of Pokhara International Airport, Minister Pandey urged stakeholders to remain optimistic about its future. “The airport has been built with a long-term vision of 50 years. There is no reason for despair; its operation is not only feasible but inevitable,” he remarked.

He added, “Pokhara is the country’s tourism hub. Regular international flights from the airport will bolster the economy and promote tourism. We are optimistic about the economic and cultural benefits this initiative will bring.”

The Minister also noted that charter flights from various Chinese destinations have dispelled technical concerns regarding the airport’s operations. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the airport’s success and maximizing its contribution to Nepal’s tourism and economic sectors.

This development promises to strengthen Pokhara’s status as a gateway for international travelers, paving the way for enhanced tourism and economic growth in the region.
