Relatives Claim Bodies of 17 Victims from Saurya Airlines Crash

Relatives have claimed the bodies of 17 victims from the Saurya Airlines crash, according to Nepal Police spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki. Out of the 18 fatalities from the crash, 17 bodies have been handed over to their families by this evening.

One foreign victim’s body will be managed after completing the necessary procedures, Karki added. The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem examinations at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. On Friday, five bodies were released to the families, followed by 12 more today.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, July 24 (9th of Shrawan), when a Saurya Airlines aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport. Out of the 19 people on board, including the crew members, 18 lost their lives. Captain Manish Ratna Shakya was the sole survivor. He was immediately rescued and taken to Kathmandu Medical College in Sinamangal for intensive care. The hospital has reported that his condition is now stable.
