Tanka Sapkota, a celebrated chef from Baglung, Nepal, renowned throughout Europe for his Italian cuisine, has made a significant culinary discovery in Portugal. For the first time, Sapkota successfully found the highly sought-after black truffle, a summer mushroom variety known for its exceptional flavor and rarity, growing underground.
The discovery was made near Alenquer, close to the capital city of Lisbon. Sapkota achieved this remarkable feat with the assistance of a trained dog, Italian truffle hunters, agricultural experts, and researchers. This collaboration enabled him to locate the elusive black truffle, marking a milestone in the culinary and agricultural fields.
This accomplishment not only highlights Sapkota’s expertise but also showcases the rich potential of the Portuguese landscape for truffle cultivation. The finding is expected to enhance the culinary prestige of the region and open new opportunities for truffle hunting and farming in Portugal.
