In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, several MPs expressed concerns over the country’s reputation being undermined due to frequent aviation accidents. They urged the government to identify the causes and implement immediate solutions.
During the special session, MP Shishir Khanal questioned why non-technical personnel were allowed on the aircraft of Saurya Airlines, which was being transported to Pokhara for testing. He voiced concerns over the increasing number of aviation accidents and criticized the lack of accountability among senior officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
MP Dhawal Shamsher Rana highlighted issues arising from the combined regulation and service provision by CAAN, which has led to Nepal being blacklisted. He urged the identification of reasons behind the delay in presenting the bill related to CAAN, passed by the National Assembly, to the House of Representatives. MP Rana also questioned the transfer of senior police officials involved in investigating the fake Bhutanese refugee case within two months.
MP Metmani Chaudhary emphasized the necessity for industries to use dedicated trunk lines to pay their dues. He questioned when the partiality favoring large businesses over smaller ones would end.
MP Ranjukumari Jha demanded an impartial investigation into the Saurya Airlines accident. She questioned why unrelated individuals were allowed on an aircraft that required maintenance.
MP Abdul Khan expressed grievances over the government’s discrimination against citizens involved in the recent tragic events, including the Saurya Airlines and Simaltal accidents.
MPs Gangaram Chaudhary and Rajkishor Yadav also criticized the state for discriminating against citizens affected by bus and aviation accidents. They questioned why women and children were on an aircraft undergoing maintenance.
MP Ramprakash Chaudhary raised concerns over the unavailability of sufficient chemical fertilizers for farmers during the cultivation season. MP Prem Suwal called for action against those responsible for various irregularities in the country and opposed any exemptions for industries using electricity from dedicated and trunk lines.
MP Narayan Prasad Acharya urged for the quick completion of stalled development projects across the country. He stressed the need for a mechanism led by elected representatives to select and implement development projects.
MP Damodar Poudel highlighted the impact of floods and landslides on daily life in various parts of Kaski and demanded compensation and relief for the affected people.
