Terrifying Storm: Boat Overturns in Phewa, Seven Miraculously Saved

A major rescue operation was conducted on Thursday evening after a stand-up double paddle boat capsized in Phewa Lake, located at Lakeside in Pokhara Metropolitan City–6, due to a sudden windstorm. The incident occurred while seven people were boating when strong winds flipped their boat in the middle of the lake.

Boat Mishap

According to officials, the victims included six Indian nationals: 25-year-old Sonu Verma, 22-year-old Neha Shekhawat, 21-year-old Arun Chaudhary, 24-year-old Poonam Chaudhary, 25-year-old Praveen Dixit, and 24-year-old Shyam Prajapati, as well as resident Nanda Bahadur Gurung from Gurung Gaun, Pokhara.

Immediately after the incident, a joint rescue team from the Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force, including divers from Armed Police Force Nepal No. 24 Kalika Battalion based at the Fewa Rescue Tower, was deployed to the site. The team successfully rescued all seven individuals trapped in the lake.

DSP and police spokesperson Shailendra Thapa informed that Nandabahadur Gurung was sent to Gandaki Medical College for treatment after experiencing health issues post-rescue. The remaining six victims were reported to be in normal condition.
