Resilient Skies: Simikot Airport Reopens After Weather-Related Suspension

Simikot Airport in Humla has successfully resumed flight operations after a three-day suspension caused by adverse weather conditions. Although the skies have cleared, flights have remained grounded since the day of Laxmi Puja.

The Simikot Airport office reported that operations for the private and government-owned Nepal Airlines commenced on Monday, attributed to the absence of flight schedules. On this day, both Tara Air and Nepal Airlines conducted flights from Nepalgunj to Simikot.

According to airport officials, each airline completed one flight from Nepalgunj today, facilitating the transport of passengers, daily consumables, and other goods. However, Sita Air and Summit Air have not yet resumed their flights after three days of suspension. Flights from Nepalgunj to Humla have been operating as per their established schedules.

With the recent conclusion of the major festivals Dashain and Tihar, there has been a gradual increase in the number of passengers traveling out of Simikot. While the flow of passengers arriving in Humla from Nepalgunj and Surkhet remains moderate, the demand for travel from Humla to outside the district remains steady. The Simikot Airport office confirmed that Sita Air and Summit Air did not operate flights today.

Nepal Airlines plans to resume flights according to its established schedule starting Tuesday, providing much-needed connectivity for travelers.
