Rhinoceros Remains Found in Bharatpur: Fourth Death in Chitwan National Park This Fiscal Year

A rhinoceros’ remains were discovered in Gaijipur, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-18. According to Dil Bahadur Purja Pun, Chief Conservation Officer of Chitwan National Park, the bones belong to a rhino that died approximately three months ago. The rhino was found dead on Monday afternoon.

Pun confirmed that the rhino likely died of old age. The rhino’s horn and hooves were found intact, but the skeleton alone was insufficient to determine its gender. This recent discovery marks the fourth rhino death in Chitwan National Park since the start of the current fiscal year in mid-July.

Of the four rhinos found dead, one died from electrocution, while two others were killed in tiger attacks. “The rhinos killed by tiger attacks were around one and two months old,” Pun explained. “One rhino calf died during treatment after being rescued, while the other was found dead in the jungle. The rhino that died from electrocution was an estimated 10-year-old female.”
