RPP Kanchanpur Hosts Event to Preserve Traditional Deuda Songs

The National Democratic Party (RPP) Kanchanpur has organized a three-day event starting Monday in Shuklaphanta Municipality-10, Jhalari, to preserve the traditional Deuda songs that are at risk of fading away.

Lalit Hamal, the coordinator of the organizing committee, highlighted that many traditional Deuda songs have been lost due to external influences and distortions over time. The event aims to protect and revive these songs by bringing together both old and new Deuda artists, showcasing the cultural significance of Deuda to the younger generation.

The program will also include information on traditional lifestyle, food, clothing, and jewelry associated with Deuda songs. Senior Deuda artist Ambadatt Joshi emphasized the emotional depth and educational value of traditional songs, which often contain historical, religious, and social messages.

Joshi expressed concern that the essence of old Deuda songs is being diminished due to the use of casual and light-hearted language. He urged the new generation to learn about Deuda culture from the older generation. The event offers a valuable opportunity for mutual learning between new and veteran Deuda performers.

The event features prominent figures such as Pashupati Dhami, Man Bahadur Bist, Baldev Bhatt, Gaur Singh Sarki, and Kalusingh Kuwar, along with renowned Deuda singers Bhanu Bhakt Joshi and JR Bhatt. The program will include performances that describe the culture of the Far-Western region, offer political satire, and address social issues through songs.

Jit Singh Bhandari, another organizer, noted that the event will feature performances with traditional Deuda rhythms, allowing for a revival of the old musical styles. Although organized by RPP, the event has attracted participation from members of all political parties and respected figures from the community.
