Nestled at an altitude of 2,208 meters above sea level in Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality-2, Myagdi, Ruise offers a serene escape with its picturesque landscapes. Visitors are greeted by the sight of majestic Himalayan ranges set against lush, sloping hillsides devoid of trees, herds of cattle and goats grazing in the pastures, and the interplay of sunlight, rain, and clouds. The peaceful atmosphere, the chirping of birds, and the cool breeze create a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Ruise feels like a canvas meticulously painted by an artist, as described by entrepreneur Krishna Raj Poudel, who recently spent two days there. He shared, “Ruise is the ideal place to escape the heat and the chaos of the market, offering relief from the stresses of work and business. The natural beauty of Ruise is beyond words.”
With increased promotion, infrastructure development, and improved accommodation and dining facilities, Ruise has seen a rise in domestic tourists. Just a decade ago, Ruise was primarily a grazing ground for cattle, buffaloes, and goats, used by the farmers of Bhagawati. Today, it has transformed into a popular tourist destination. Kamala Shahi, a hotelier from Ruise, noted, “What was once just a grazing ground ten years ago has now developed into a tourist spot. Visitors come to Ruise not only for vacations but also throughout the year.”
Ruise’s main attractions include stunning views of the Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre mountains, as well as breathtaking sunrises. Depending on the season, visitors can also enjoy the sight of blooming flowers, forests, rural settlements, livestock sheds, and traditional hillside landscapes, all in a tranquil environment far from the noise of urban life.
Ruise is accessible from Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi, with a one-hour-and-30-minute drive through Galeshwor, Piplet, and Bhagawati. Although the road is unpaved, the Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality has developed facilities such as a view tower, trekking paths, picnic spots, and a rhododendron garden in collaboration with the Division Forest Office, according to the municipality’s chairman, Bhava Bahadur Bhandari.
Tourists staying in Ruise can embark on a one-hour uphill hike to reach Bhedi Odar, where they can experience traditional lifestyles through the herders’ sheds that house goats and sheep during the winter. The sight of grazing sheep and goats in the pasture is truly captivating. Visitors can also explore historical sites like the Kotghar of Bhagawati and the ruins of the Ruise Palace from the Malla era. Local restaurants in Ruise offer a taste of traditional dishes such as mushrooms, ferns, nettle pickles, local chicken, goat meat, and millet porridge.
The Ruise-Bhedi Odar area, which lies at the entrance of the alternative trekking route connecting Myagdi and Mustang via the Dhaulagiri Icefall trail, is gaining attention for tourism promotion. Recently, Gandaki Provincial Assembly Member Hari Bahadur Bhandari, who visited the area, mentioned that efforts are underway to upgrade the road leading to Ruise. The provincial government has already blacktopped a five-kilometer stretch of the road connecting Piplet to Bhagawati.
