Sabha Pokhari, a region renowned for its religious and tourism potential, is poised to be developed into a prominent rural tourism destination.
For over three decades, the Village Tourism Promotion Forum (VITOF) Nepal has been dedicated to promoting tourism in Nepal’s rural areas. VITOF Nepal is now channeling its efforts into transforming the sacred site of Sabha Pokhari into a thriving rural tourism hub.
From Jestha 31 to today, a VITOF Nepal-led team conducted an extensive study on the area’s tourism potential. Shakuntala Devkota, President of VITOF Nepal, stated that the team, which included tourism expert Dr. Aalok Prasai and Uttam Devkota, Managing Director of Medhavi Consultancy Company, visited Sabha Pokhari for this comprehensive study.
President Devkota highlighted that VITOF Nepal annually declares a ‘Destination Village’ to promote rural tourism. This year, Sabha Pokhari is being considered for this prestigious designation.
Previously, VITOF has successfully promoted tourism in various villages, including Amalatri in Nawalparasi, Chitlang in Makwanpur, Shivadhuri in Baglung, Kalabang in Kaski, Sailung in Ramechhap, Bethanchok in Kavrepalanchok, and Ruby Valley in Dhading.
According to President Devkota, VITOF focuses on the geographical features, organic food, religious significance, and cultural exchange of these villages. The initial phase involves detailed on-site studies to identify potential locations for tourism development.
VITOF announces a ‘Destination Village’ every year on September 27, fostering both domestic and international tourism. This initiative continues to bolster rural economies and preserve cultural heritage across Nepal.
