Sagarmatha Day and Tourism Promotion Program Held in Tokyo to Strengthen Nepal–Japan Tourism Ties

A special program titled “Sagarmatha Day and Tourism Promotion Event” was successfully held in Tokyo, Japan, featuring various activities aimed at promoting Nepal’s mountains, trekking routes, and tourism potential.

The event was organized to provide detailed information about Nepal’s Himalayas, trekking destinations, and tourism opportunities. According to the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo, the program was attended by representatives from Japanese tour and travel agencies, officials from tourism-related organizations in Japan, members of the Nepali community, as well as diplomats and staff from the Nepali Embassy.

Strengthening Nepal–Japan Tourism Cooperation in Sagarmatha Day

The event, which began with the national anthems of Nepal and Japan, highlighted the strong cultural and tourism ties between the two countries. Acting Ambassador Harihar Kant Poudel emphasized that Mount Everest (Sagarmatha Day), the world’s highest peak, is a symbol of Nepal’s pride, identity, and international recognition.

He also shared insights on Nepal’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, adventure tourism, and religious tourism, aiming to attract more Japanese tourists to Nepal. A video message from Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal was also presented during the program, delivered on the occasion of Sagarmatha Day.

Cultural Performances Showcase Nepal’s Diversity

The program featured a variety of cultural performances showcasing Nepal’s rich cultural diversity, which captivated the audience and added a vibrant touch to the promotional event.

Link with International Mountain Film Festival

Earlier, Japanese Ambassador Maeda attended a special screening of the Japanese film “Climbing for Life” at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival. The film, based on the life of legendary mountaineer Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mount Everest, was previously showcased at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of her historic achievement.

The screening of the film in Kathmandu was warmly welcomed, where it also received the Audience Award, reflecting strong appreciation from viewers.

The Tokyo event further reinforced efforts to promote Nepal as a premier global destination for mountain tourism, adventure travel, and cultural experiences, while strengthening tourism cooperation between Nepal and Japan.
