According to the data, tourist arrivals in May 2026 increased by 19 percent compared to the same month in 2025, when Nepal welcomed 86,216 international visitors. The growth is even more remarkable when compared to the pre-pandemic period, with arrivals standing 31 percent higher than May 2019 levels, which recorded 78,329 visitors. Tourism stakeholders have described the figures as highly encouraging, noting that Nepal continues to strengthen its image as a destination offering unique cultural heritage, adventure tourism, natural beauty, and spiritual experiences.
India Remains Nepal’s Largest Tourist Market
India continued to dominate as Nepal’s largest source market for international tourists in May 2026. More than 40,000 Indian visitors traveled to Nepal during the month, accounting for nearly 40 percent of total arrivals. China secured the second position, followed by the United States, Bangladesh, and the United Kingdom.

Visitors from other Asian countries made up 19.9 percent, while Europe contributed 13.1 percent. The Americas accounted for 10.3 percent of total arrivals, followed by Oceania with 3.1 percent.
Smaller yet notable contributions also came from the Middle East, Africa, and other regions, reflecting its expanding global tourism reach.
