Nepal is proud to host the first edition of Sagarmatha Sambaad (Everest Dialogue) a visionary global platform for addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity and the planet. Taking place in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18, 2025, this landmark event represents Nepal’s growing commitment to international climate diplomacy and environmental leadership.

Sagarmatha Sambaad
The theme of the inaugural Sambaad, “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity,” arises from our deep connection to the Himalayas and our urgent awareness of their vulnerability. These mountains, revered for centuries, are now rapidly changing due to the harsh impacts of climate change melting glaciers, irregular rainfall, landslides, floods, and droughts. This theme reflects not only the present crisis but also a vision for a sustainable, just, and resilient future for all.

Our mountains are more than majestic peaks; they are living sources of water, biodiversity, spiritual inspiration, and ecological balance. They are sacred symbols of resilience and hope. Rooted in Nepal’s ancient tradition of seeking wisdom in the lap of the Himalayas, Sagarmatha Sambaad embodies a profound sense of responsibility not just to Nepal, but to all humanity and the Earth itself.
Sagarmatha Sambaad is not simply an academic or policy gathering; it is a human-centered, inclusive forum where voices from every part of the world come together. Scientists, policymakers, climate activists, mountaineers, indigenous leaders, youth, and people directly affected by the climate crisis will join hands to reflect on what we have, what we know, and what we must do next. In this honest reflection lies our shared hope for meaningful global change.

The Dialogue emphasizes that climate change does not recognize national boundaries, and neither should our response. The Sambaad calls for empathy, cooperation, and action that transcends borders and sectors. It advocates for bold solutions anchored in equity, compassion, and long-term vision. The message is clear: dialogue must lead to action.
This initiative also serves as a powerful moment of international recognition for Nepal. Through this forum, Nepal not only raises its voice for climate justice but also reinforces its image as a nation of global relevance, a guardian of the Himalayas, a hub for sustainable tourism, and a leader in ecological consciousness. It is a proud moment for all Nepalis, and especially for those of us in the global diaspora who work to promote and protect Nepal’s image and heritage abroad.

As Deputy General Secretary of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and Chair of the Nepal Tourism Promotion Committee, I believe that Sagarmatha Sambaad is more than just a dialogue; it is a defining milestone. It strengthens our resolve to protect our Himalayas, advocate for the voiceless, and engage with the world as a nation committed to climate action and global cooperation. The NRNA remains dedicated to supporting such transformative efforts and promoting Nepal on the world stage.
Sagarmatha Sambaad 2025 is a call to unity, action, and hope. It reminds us that while the challenges are great, so too is our capacity for collaboration and change. Let this dialogue mark the beginning of deeper solidarity, stronger policies, and lasting global commitment to safeguarding our planet. Let Nepal’s mountains inspire the world to rise together for a better, more sustainable future.
